We Get to Dignity by Learning to Listen

Workplace DC is a nonprofit center that strives to make the workplace as safe a space as our home base. This is done by advocating inside and outside of the corporate structure to foster systems change in order to help employees and leaders understand the value of dignity and reconciliation. This understanding can then convert workplaces into safe spaces.

Workplace Dignity Center

Humble Beginnings

What was initially conceived and executed as a Workplace Dignity blog in 2012 has morphed into a service-oriented nonprofit center providing in-depth training, dispute resolution engagement, and transition services to those in need. The blog was the brainchild of Kendall Isaac, then a law professor teaching students the skills behind and benefits of alternative dispute resolution (negotiation, mediation and arbitration). These skills were honed during his time spent initially as a human resource professional and later as a lawyer practicing labor and employment law. By combining conflict resolution theory with direct workplace disputes expertise, and by seeing firsthand the harms associated with ineffective employee dispute resolution practices, Workplace Dignity Center was born.

Trust the process and each other.

Advocacy for oneself - respectfully.

Patience with the process and each other.

Trust...Advocacy...Patience = how you TAP into DIGNITY.

We achieve dignity by believing in the basic goodness of the human spirit, by believing most humans value mutual respect and fairness, and by believing that most would agree that even when an employee has a misstep, one setback should not negate a career of achievement. Leaders who embody these three tenets will listen with an intention to learn, will exude patience during investigatory process, and will infuse dignity into disciplinary proceedings. These actions will magnify dignity and respect for all.

Practicing workplace dignity takes emotional intelligence, managerial courage, and a commitment towards relationship reconciliation.

The Workplace Dignity Center logo is inspired by the Ghanaian Adinkra symbol 'Mpatapo' which means the "knot of reconciliation." It represents the spirit of peacemaking and symbolizes the bond that brings people together after a conflict, emphasizing harmony, forgiveness, and a peaceful resolution.
